Update on Animals

While the winter was a challenge for our four legged crew, they have all come into Spring beautifully! Annie and Lily are finishing their recovery time at Dr. Dunlap’s clinic. Annie’s stomach is healing up well. Lily’s eye has totally healed, and both will be ready for travel soon.

Molly has moved to a foster farm where she has a new best friend, and as expected, it’s a donkey. The family who cares for her love working with her and she has made plenty of people friends there.

Sprite has found a new home and - thank goodness - he has a girl to spoil. We know how much Sprite loves cuddling and giving kisses. He also loves being pampered, so this is a match made in Heaven.

The donkey crew are all together in a new spot and loving it! I have received photo updates and they are just as happy as clams. Penny still runs the herd, of course, with Trigger and Mary following her lead. They are in a great space with people who love them.

Most of the chickens and ducks have helped to restart other farms where a complete flock was needed. While that crew has migrated to new spaces, Fudge and his two pals still rock the pond at the farm. They eat across the street at our neighbor’s farm, but they just chill at their pond because they love the peace and quiet.

Our BEEs are thriving!! We only lost 1 hive this winter, a 90% survival rate in a year when the average losses are closer to 40%. We are SO grateful to our awesome Bee Team, and to David Glover the Bartlett Bee Whisperer for training us in their care. New hives are already being started as swarms and rescues begin to come in. We plan to split some hives this year and start new ones in new locations this year to expand bee rescue projects. This is such a buzzy time! (Couldn’t help myself)

Spade the wonder cat has moved to ARF barn and is keeping Dr. Dunlap and crew happy with his snuggly antics. I’ve seen him with his new barn cat friends, and though he is clearly not the man in charge, he still runs around acting like he is. Mice be ware!

Lots of changes with animals on the move, and more to come as the farm team hits the road to promote farm programs across the country. More news to come - watch this space!
